THE BEATLES
ep's

Of the Beatles' Parlophone EPs, only LONG TALL SALLY contains new material, all of it grand: the boisterous title cut, energetic covers of Larry Williams' "Slow Down" and Carl Perkins' "Matchbox," and the original "I Call Your Name," quite frankly one of the most impressive and alluring pop songs ever put on tape in my opinion... it helps that Lennon's vocal on the track is surely the finest moment on record by rock & roll's best singer ever. The ska-like instrumental break, too, must count as the most inspired, perfect moment in any of his songs. It's dynamite.

The other EPs are essentially choice cuts from concurrent albums, condensed for a budget-line European audience. Not listed above is the one American EP on Capitol, 4 BY THE BEATLES.

These EPs were released overseas on CD in a boxed set, which is still available but quite pricey. I've never seen it myself but I hear it has some rare mixes, or some shit like that.
