The most exciting event of 2001 for many Plaastik fans was not the two new albums by their favorite band, nor was it the band's biggest and longest tour to date. It was the announcement that a studio version of this song would be released on the single for "In Our Sun." One of the first songs Nick Parker wrote, played at the very first Plaastik concert, this was a long-standing holy grail for many in the vein of "Dreams of Old News" and "Ocean Sky," and it was an event of serious magnitude that the band had at last decided to release it. This recording is from the sessions for either TODAY'S CAJUN SPICE or HERD POLITICS, it's unclear which. The band had fallen in love with the song again toward the end of the Diplomacy Tour and it became a regular feature on Science Tour setlists, so it was a natural for a b-side and was, despite being over twenty years old, the song of the year for a lot of people.
you screamed in my face before you tried to revive me
i was bewildered by your presence
it's quite amazing when you come alive
then you go and sit in the corner
you know every language, and a number of dialects
but you hide in the hood of a car
you kick and scream, you break a few limbs
you throw knives under your breath
you forget whatever you brought here
then you go back to retrieve it
you kiss us off, then you return to life
arching an eyebrow while i scream in pain
stammering and giving, recovering and taking
apologies and understanding
there are some words that you just can't say
you take your vows and lock the door
and when the day turns to night
and when the seconds feel like years
you're still beaming,
and sometimes i wonder why.
there's really no reason to doubt you
you climb mountains to save your lover's life
stay off, stay away, keep away from here
don't talk about money with me anymore
it's like a chess piece attacking
it's the greatest thing that ever happened
we're starting to fade, I have to get up early
goodnight, goodnight, you just don't know
you just don't know what it means to see you
now i can really see all the beautiful things
it's scary and i laugh when i stumble
and when the day turns to night
and when the seconds feel like years
you're still beaming,
and sometimes i just wonder why.
sometimes i just can't see where you're headed
sometimes i fall on my face
