AWKWARD STATE

performed on:
Nick Parker had never before sung with such a southern drawl, and Plaastik's production had never been so stark, encompassing only some upfront percussion and, eventually, Janet Kieran's rhythm guitar turned way up delivering a riff seemingly straight out of TALKING BOOK-era Stevie Wonder. This first single from DINOSAUR DISTRIBUTION FIENDS came as quite a shock to many, and it was the last Plaastik song on Geffen to scrape the Top 40, hitting #37, helped a bit by the band's most straightforward video to date, against a white background playing the song with gusto while, for no reason, a Bugs Bunny cartoon is shown behind them.

Needless to say, this raveup was quite a favorite live, but it disappeared after the 1987 tour, so fans were happy to see it back in the running on Science Tour shows.

What I was I want it back now
I want to jump again
I want to DESTROY
Can you help me find my awkward state again?

I know you hate it now
Soon you'll beg for it
Soon you'll try to remember
Photograph is only a part of your awkward state

Awkward state
Drown me in
Awkward state
Pull me back
Like a vaccum
Suck me, suck me

You want to kill 'em all
They irritate you so
I want to kill 'em all
But I haven't the energy

Awkward state
Drown me in
Awkward state
Pull me back
Like a vaccum
Suck me, suck me
