BEGINNING BEHIND

The only all-out balls to the wall rocker on MR. ROSS VERDICT, "Beginning Behind" is rather well-liked by everyone but Plaastik, who were never pleased with it. It was John Cale who, fond of the song, insisted it make the cut of the album. The song is rarely discussed and it's unknown when exactly it was composed. Nick has claimed it was one of the first songs the band wrote, but the writing and publishing credits seem to disprove this. John Cale originally heard it accidentally when he left a reel of demos running. When he commented on it to the band, they dismissed it as "ancient history."
Plaastik still disagrees with the song's placement on the album, enough so that they included a vastly rewritten -- and by all accounts superior -- version called "Drive" subsequently on their debut album for MCA Records, TODAY'S CAJUN SPICE. "Beginning Behind" finally got a new life of sorts when it was performed live for the first time ever at Plaastik's penultimate Science Tour show, greeted with roaring applause, and surprisingly enough the band seemed to enjoy it.
