CABINET
performed:
Christina Singleton was not fond of the MR. ROSS VERDICT songwriting approach but loved playing with Plaastik, so the band decided that she could write a few songs on her own for each LP. Inevitably, the structures are more rigid in her contributions, but she does cut loose, and her buildup on this cut is excellent. It opens with some stark percussion by Worrell before launching into a GIANT STEPS-type quick-step playout that keeps reaching forward in intensity but never wears out its welcome. There are no guitars on this track and the actual band members are barely even on it. The song was dominated so much by the guest players that it was never even attempted at a show until the promotional tour for CHILD.
I had the manual
I had the parts
I had the wood
I had the screws
I began to build my cabinet
Door, handle
Hinges, magnet
You came in
With your deck of cards
The kicks began
My cabinet fell apart
And now I'm so alone again
Without any pride
I began to build my cabinet
Door, handle
Hinges, magnet
Cabinet falls to dust
