This compilation gathering the singles from "To Know Him Is to Love Him" to LOVE was quickly thrown together by Capitol in 2005; it's unknown why they did not wait for Plaastik's contract to run out, which it will at the end of 2007 or after they deliver two more albums. Whereas MEAT featured a great deal of new material, RECENT ACTIVITY presents very little that a Plaastik fan would not already have: a new mix of "Scarlett" of negligible interest, a new edit of "My Joke Is Lost," a new performance of "Ex" that mostly caused irritation (since it renders the gathering of 7" mixes here incomplete, a change no doubt only made because the single had just been issued two months prior to this CD), and the lone new song, "The Ballad of a Lost Cause," Plaastik's most indistinct single to date. Perhaps Plaastik was putting Capitol on, but if so, it was of no benefit to them, and it was hard to deny how underwhelming most of the songs on the compilation (save "We Were" and "Walking Distance" and a few other choice moments) were.
