DID SHE KNOW WHAT I FELT?

Technically, this and not "Look (Time)" is the oldest song on CHILD. It dates from the CARTOONS sessions with Phil Spector but has been heavily altered and distorted on the newer album. Nick pulled it out after forgetting about it for years because it fit so well with the mood of the album; other band members recalled being shocked that he could find something so appropriate. Sung to the tune of "Baa Baa Black Sheep" and credited to Parker, this song is inspired by John Lennon's "My Mummy's Dead," the brief closing track of PLASTIC ONO BAND. Less than forty seconds in length, it was always intended as the ghostly and distant final track, ending the album with a beautiful jazz chord.

A live version was tested in 2005 with Nick singing vocals alone, Janet adding some guitar reverb.

did she know what I felt then?
was she trying to tell me when
she would linger, she would chat
she would lick and she would laugh
it's too late to find out now
i'm alone and she's taken her vow
one day we will both be dead
it was all inside my head
now does she know how I tried?
will she come and say goodbye?
