Aside from their cover of "Good Vibrations," Plaastik's most beloved non-studio selection and along with GV the most frequent unrequited request. Although "Vibrations" has appeared six times since it stopped being a regular feature on the Playtime tour in 1983, "Dreams of Old News" hasn't even been aurally glimpsed since the last night of the same tour. This is ironic since it seems to be a favorite of everyone in the band. The reason for its complete disappearance is unkown.

The wistful tone of the song is augmented by delicate backing vocals and 12-string electric guitar. A different arrangement was attempted only once, on 10/25/82 in support of FUN GOLDFISH TOYS, when it was combined with another elusive cut, "And When the Seconds Feel Like Years." Parker came out alone on acoustic guitar to play both songs, a severe change of pace particularly for "Seconds" but also for this one. It was not tested again.

Fans constantly shout for "Dreams of Old News" but the band never so much as acknowledges it. No evidence exists that it's been recorded or that it has even been attempted in the studio. Of course fans went wild with anticipation at the 11/19/01 show, but the song was not among the rarities pulled out. The band said in 2004 that one shouldn't "hold your breath" for a return.
