EX

performed on:
Sung by Nick with backing by Janet, this atypically complete LOVE demo from 2002 contains a lovely piano line (whether Nick or Janet played it is unknown). "Ex" eventually was issued as the third single from LOVE but was less successful than the others, only reaching #30 on Billboard. The single version is a full electric band performance, recorded in 2004 during an attempt to make LOVE a Plaastik album that ended up futile. Yet another version was issued in 2005 on the compilation RECENT ACTIVITY, this a full-band acoustic version similar to one played on Letterman a year prior.

The video directed by Nick Parker has the band playing the song, their heads gradually replaced by cartoon smiley faces. The electric version on the single is similar to the live versions heard in 2005.

goddamn you for making me fall for it
goddamn me for loving you
ex, you had such a simple appeal
ex, it should have just been an easy switch

but you know what happened
we all know what happened
i was too hooked, it was like
it was like the glue on the carpet
it was like i couldn't move

I can't let go
I won't let go
I can't let go
I won't let go

i can't imagine why i'm showing up here
i can't imagine why i'm knocking on your door
i can't imagine why I don't just walk away
everything you do is to try to fuck me up

You're actin like it's chill
when the deal's gettin ill
WHY DON'T YOU BREAK YOUR FACE ON MY HEAD

I can't let go
I won't let go
I can't let go
I won't let go.

ex, I thought you were something I could peel away.
ex, I need everything that makes me run.
ex, I need to hate you again.
I won't
let
go
