FINAL HOUR

performed on:
  • SCIENCE TOUR (2001)

Fans had plenty of criticism -- much of it deserved -- for the botched deluxe release of FUN GOLDFISH TOYS, but a lot of it was virtually negated by the presence of this outstanding track, later released as a single. Its title is appropriate because it was indeed the last thing recorded for FUN GOLDFISH TOYS, an attempt at an opening track with "commercial potential." It combines elements from all seven of the EP tracks that had been decided upon by now and turns the whole affair into a danceable, guitar-ridden anthem... and it even features Janet Kieran's voice in harmony with Nick's. Even the band admitted that this shouldn't have been left in the vaults, and they decided to make it a single to follow up their success with "To Know Him is to Love Him." Even though "Final Hour" only reached #84 on the charts, it is a classic for most fans and was one of the biggest crowdpleasers of the show when it was played live for the first time on November 19, 2001.
