"Free," with lyrics partially rewritten from the early composition "Among Us It Lingers," was a popular showstoper on the Playtime Tour which was consistently announced as a song that would be on the next album. For once, Plaastik came through on that promise and it was the "big statement" of the record, with its scrawling feedback building up to white noise midway through before bottoming out into the exhilirating chorus. The live arrangment is more straightforward, but on the Science Tour, "Free" was performed both in the regular incarnation and in a widely unpopular synthesizer-augmented version.
