Plaastik played this hysterical showstopper nearly every night during the first two years they performed but never even considered recording it until Stephen Hague heard it at the last Goldfish show and insisted. In the end they were so enthusiastic about it that they pushed for a single reason on Geffen, who considered it an impossibility until "Daddy's Little Girl" went #1 and Plaastik forced their way. No one, including the band, expected it to be popular, but it was, immensely, and the photogenic video, simply of Kevin Keys playing the drums in front of the word "TASTE," helped a bit, though MTV wouldn't allow the word "ass" to air. Performing "Hot Glass" always remained fun for the band, and the song conforms readily to any stylistic modification; it fits right in on all the tours and has appeared in roughly eight different arrangements. For this reason it was a severe disappointment that the song was not played on the Science Tour. The best of the live renditions, the magnificent funk version, with a Bill Evans-derived piano line, was included on the NOT UNPLUGGED LP.
