IT'S STUPID
performed: never
Apparently recorded in 2000, this meandering jam (with drum machine) by Nick and Janet was brought in as a possible contribution to SCIENCE but was rejected by other band members. It reportedly was originally the same song as "You and Me," the released version of which is said to be extracted from a 2003 jam, leading to the possibility that neither song is as spontaneous as it sounds. "It's Stupid" leaked a few months before LOVE was released and at the time (mid-2004) was an instrumental. Words were not written until rehearsals for the 2004 promo tour that was ultimately cancelled; the vocals by Nick were overdubbed in the fall of that year.
At twenty minutes, this song was a controversial choice as opening track, and drove fans crazy when it leaked (the other song leaked in 2004, "On the Telly," was even less auspicious). There is a full-band pop version on the "Ex" single that lasts less than four minutes and is regularly cited as one of Plaastik's best recent tracks.
it's so stupid to fall in love
it's so stupid to fall in love
you're better off alone, baby
better off alone
when it comes right down to it
you really love yourself
when it comes right down to it
you can get off by yourself
it's so stupid to fall in love
it's so stupid to fall in love
the babes in the porno
they don't reject you
the dudes in harlequinns
they never judge you
it's so stupid to fall in love
it's self-sufficient to stay alone
why the hell can't i listen to myself
why the hell can't i stay away
why the fuck did i surrender
why the fuck did i fall in love
with you
