ME

"Me" is an ominous, universally loved showcase of Janet as a singer and guitarist. The first song actually written for CHILD (by the entire band sans Tina), this track was a true group effort despite the fact that on the record it is just Janet and an electric guitar. It was originally written at rehearsals toward the end of 2002 and most versions (including all of Tina's) had the entire band on the song, as indeed did the finished take; everyone except Janet was mixed out. The 2005 live versions are closer to the original attempts, replete with a harmonica solo, though an earlier live take was played by just Jay and Janet while Nick left the stage.
If you're not happy then why stay
I can't play along now
I'm a sellout, baby
This ain't jealousy
It's pure unkempt philosophy
All I care for is money
And the things you despise
You bounce me out the door and I'll laugh
And I used to be such a nice guy
Sometimes I'm so sure
And sometimes I'm not
So I guess I'm still not sure
Too bad, baby.
