This piano-driven demo, vocals by Janet, dates from 2000 and, like, "It's Stupid," was presented at the early sessions for SCIENCE but put aside. It later became a Plaastik favorite (even Christina Singleton has named it has her personal choice for the best song on LOVE): The band wanted the song on CHILD, Nick wanted it exclusively on LOVE (but possibly only because the others refused to allow him to include his demo of "My Field" on LOVE), and everyone went Nick's way. The version of "My One and Only" on both the album and the single is the first version ever recorded (or played, if Nick is to be believed).
Surprisigly, the demo was released as a single and became a fluke hit (#11) blessed by a hugely successful CD maxi-single. Many people bought LOVE because of the song, but many more simply bought the single. The full-band acoustic version, full-band rock version, and alternate demo on the b-sides helped sweeten the deal. The video was a montage of Nick and Janet's home movies. The only live version played to date is a simple acoustic performance with just Nick and Janet on stage, premiered in 2005.
