OCEAN SKY

Few Plaastik songs have managed to achieve this one's degree of elusive notoriety. It is widely billed as the first song Nick Parker wrote for the band and it was played at their very first show in 1980. He has admitted that the lyrics are about Janet Kieran and that they are extremely personal and difficult to perform. As a result, he omitted the lyrics from most Goldfish Tour performances and played the song only rarely in 1983. He has called it "gut-wrenching" and refused to allow it to be included on FUN GOLDFISH TOYS and NO PARKING ANYTIME. He attempted to bar it from becoming a b-side as well, but a song was needed at the last minute and the band essentially had no choice but to release the barely-produced version made at the album sessions. He refuses to play the song live.

Why are you so far away?
how can it be like this?
I wish I could beg you to stay
wish for an embrace & a kiss
but you're not here, you've been gone
I'm tired of the same shit always
I don't care about my life, don't care if I'm alone
'Cause the fact is I can't live without you anyway

I'LL SWIM ACROSS THE OCEAN
I'LL SWIM ACROSS THE OCEAN AND BREATHE IN YOUR SKY

Fucking walls everywhere, why am I so scared?
I'm not afraid to say it, I'm not afraid to be me
but there's no use without your voice and your hair
all I want is for you to come here to my tree
it's not you, you'll be here, you know how I feel
but the fuckers take it away 'cause it's not for them
so they invade and they kill and relentlessly steal
'till I'm fucking lost, ripped limb from limb

I'LL SWIM ACROSS THE OCEAN
I'LL SWIM ACROSS THE OCEAN AND BREATHE IN YOUR SKY

he said a working class hero is something to be
but they give me everything when you're all I need
please help me find a way, help me escape
they hate me 'cause I love you and I hate them 'cause they hate
let it come down, just let it fucking stop
I hope they all suffocate and soon they drop
they're so lost they can't see how it hurts to stay
when you love somebody who's so far away

I'LL SWIM ACROSS THE OCEAN
AND BREATHE IN YOUR SKY

Fuck them all, let 'em all die
I hope we're the last ones left
They wanted to kill what we have
Let's never let them win
