THE OLD MILL

performed on:
Nick Parker referred to this as "an oldie" in second encore at the 8/7/94 show in St. Louis before launching into a song that left even the most hardcore Plaastik fans in the audience clueless. This performance and a dozen or so others in the months to follow were very popular circulations among bootleggers, and Parker finally addressed the song in an online chat in mid-1995, in which he explained it was a forgotten outtake from HEAR THE NEW NOISES that "visited Kevin in a dream so we had to put it in the set." The version in the vaults, he said, was half-finished with no overdubs and was extracted early on in favor of "Mainstream Single," a decision that "I'm not sure was so well thought out."

The rabbits are all running from the field
The old mill turns around
The rabbits know the blood's drenched
In the grass and on us all

As the mill turns
The rabbits learn more
They've got to get away from the old mill

The rabbits run and run and run
But they look back
The mill looms large
The mill looms large
Got to get away

As the mill turns
The rabbits learn more
They've got to get away from the old mill

And so for years they run
But the mill turns and turns
More run but they can never get away
The river of blood, it's never dry

The rabbits run and run and run
But they look back
The mill looms large
The mill looms large
Got to get away
