RIDICULOUS FOOL

Until recently strictly a studio novelty, "Ridiculous Fool" was added to the album as a joke, but it was "a lot of fun to make," says Kevin Keys, who is credited with composing the track. Mitch Easter sampled five seconds of feedback and fed it into a synthesizer, then generated a rhythm with it, and after putting that on tape, did it again with some other feedback until there was a soundscape of syncopated buzzing. He also allowed the tapes to fall slightly out of sync as the track goes on. Nick Parker picked up a megaphone and overdubbed some ranting lyrics by Keys, which were then slowed down to sound menacing.

On November 19, 2001, the band played this completely unexpectedly in the encore at their all-rarities penultimate Science Tour show. This time Jay Kay Ray performed the throaty vocals, remembering the lyrics word for word (so clearly the song was rehearsed). The sounds came from Janet Kieran, Nick Parker, Jeff Jooce, Christina Singleton, and Mitchell Blank standing by amplifiers turned all the way up, each holding electric guitars and indulging in an impossible amount of feedback. One distinct difference from the studio version: Kevin added some heavy percussion. The band and audience were very pleased with the results.

You ridiculous fool
Everything you know is wrong
Because they got to you first
They got to you before I did

Word is not Real nor Truth,
but deadly virus of humanity.
transmitted through language.
Teach Time Cube, You Fools.

YOU are the lowest form.
YOU can't procreate alone.
YOU destroyed the village.
YOU destroyed the family.
YOU destroyed childhood.
YOU destroyed naturalism.
YOU don't know the Truth.
YOU pitiful mindless fools,
YOU are educated stupid.
YOU worship cubeless word.
YOU are your own poison.
YOU create your own hell.
YOU must seek Time Cube.
