SANTA CLAUS

performed on:
Described by some critics as among the best opening tracks of all time, "Santa Claus" is a wonderfully cynical statement of purpose, proving that somehow Plaastik would always find its way to be inventive. Although the production is nothing special, the bubbling intensity of the percussion and paranoid energy of the 12-string guitar make it a truly manic recording. The cut shows more restraint than usual for Plaastik, in that it's obviously very thought-out and the arrangement is rocking but not explosive (like, say, the next track on the album). In live performances it was another story; "Santa Claus" was blistering heavy-metal on stage, always belted out with conviction.

Got some bad news for the kiddies in your life
Through their hopes and joy it may cut like a knife
You may want to cover their ears
But just let me confirm their fears

There is no Santa Claus
There is no Santa Claus
No great protector
No one to watch over you
No one who gives a fucking shit
There is no Santa Claus

So all you kiddies jump out the window tonight
Run downtown past the tracks and get into a fight
Grow up faster still, be prepared
Don't get left behind just because you're scared

There is no Santa Claus
There is no Santa Claus
You can do what you want
Don't have to stand guard
Don't have to do what they tell you
There is no Santa Claus

Throw a brick through a window
Buy a gun and snort cocaine
Your mommy will still buy you
That new video game

All you kiddies fuck and suck and get away with it
You're a delinquent and a deadbeat but you don't give a shit
Not since we set you free from the lies
Not since the day we told you how everything dies

There is no Santa Claus
There is no Santa Claus
There is no Santa Claus
There is no Santa Claus
