SISTER RAY
performed on:
In 1980, Plaastik used to play, as a joke, a two-minute "bubblegum pop" version of the Velvet Underground's seventeen-minute drugs-and-blowjobs opus "Sister Ray." Telling this to the VU's John Cale, who produced MR. ROSS VERDICT, after recording the oldies medley from the "Left" single, Cale insisted that the band play it for him. They did, had a good laugh, spent an hour adding overdubs -- including the man himself on bass -- and threw it on the "Coffin" single.
