SWIM

performed on:

A real gem: the entire band on acoustic guitars, strumming away for seven minutes, with beautiful sax and strings backing them up. The guitar interplay is, as Janet said, "tortuously complex." It took nearly 140 takes to get this song on tape.

we live to regret so much
with everything to lose
tonight I just want to swim with you
you can fall back on me
and you'll be my life
the way it's always been
the way it has to be

there are rivers passing through this city
I admire them all at length
I watch the twisting paths
and I wonder where they go
but this is where I belong

and if we take a swim down the river
we swim together
and we face what's coming
alone in the water
your flesh and mine
shimmering
as we fall
