WHERE WE LIVE

In direct contrast to "The White House," written around the same time, "Where We Live" is purely ecstatic, and it's a perfect song to demonstrate the way Plaastik's work translates well into different arrangements. The studio version is a tense but glorious pop song; the Information Tour shows recast as funk glory. the Diplomacy Tour found the band playing it both in its original form and as a whisper-quiet acoustic cut, and on Science Tour shows they threw in a house beat and a hip-hop interlude (in one of the most fun moments on the tour). The "funk" version, an especially wild performance, was recorded by the band in the studio for the best-of compilation MEAT, where it became the first track on the first disc.

You say what you want about my hair
About my lifestyle and what I wear
But you don't step into my hall
And jerk me around 'bout the color of the wall

Because this is where I live
This is where we live
She's here with me
It's where we live
And you can't do a thing

I know you don't approve of my job
I know you think I should trade in the Saab
I know you think I married a whore
And that I'm wastin' away over at the grocery store

But this is where we live
This is where we live

Take out your mind and your mouth
And go someplace else
Because it doesn't matter much to me
It's a beautiful house
And it's a beautiful world
It's a beautiful life
It's a beautiful life
My life

This is where we live
Where we live
Where we live
Where we live
