THE WHITE HOUSE

performed on:
The most mournful ballad yet in Plaastik's recorded oeuvre, "The White House" is produced starkly with acoustic guitar and drums, plus (of course) some feedback. The band erupted into its biggest argument with producer Hugh Padgham when he insisted that strings be added to the track -- but eventually backed down. This song has only been performed as part of a dozen or so Diplomacy Tour shows, during the acoustic set -- once on piano.

Personal warfare, you and me
Why do I do this to myself?
So futile, so isolated
I know the hiding places
And that's where I'll be tonight

Maybe you'll find me and maybe you won't
Maybe we'll talk and maybe we won't
I can find something to do
It's a big house, it's a big house
Bigger than you and bigger than me

I know I get defensive
And I know how you feel
But as soon as I understand
Once I grasp all the feelings
I forget what I was gonna say
And it's too much to hang on to

Maybe I'll see you and maybe I won't
Maybe we'll go out and maybe we won't
We can scream as loud as we like
It's a big house, it's a big house
But it's not big enough for you and me

The night you went out at 4
You painted white all around
You said it was a new beginning
But everywhere I look
Seems like everything's ending

It's a big house, it's a big house
And I guess that I'll be on my way
